The Four Versions
The Argenti System is available in four Versions, three for Companies and one for Non Profit Organizations (or 'Not For Profits'). Current prices for all these versions will be found on the Purchase pages.
See the case studies opposite for examples of how four different organizations moved through the their version of The Argenti System.
The company versions are:
The Argenti System of Strategic Planning.
This is the Standard Version. It is suitable for all types and sizes of company including all profit-making co-operatives, mutuals and partnerships. But it is less valuable for larger Groups and Smaller Companies - see below for these. This is the original version of the Argenti System which has been in widespread use since 1980. While the essential and basic principles have remained valid since John Argenti described them in his first book published in 1968, it has, of course, been repeatedly updated over that period.
The Argenti System of Strategic Planning for Groups.
A Group is defined as a company with several levels of devolved management, for example; Group, Divisions, Profit Centres. Some Groups decide to draw up their strategic plan for the entire group, including all their divisions and profit centres, in one single plan. For these the Standard Version will be suitable - however, our experience suggests that this task can become extremely complex for Groups with a number of divisions or whose divisions operate in widely diverse areas of business. In these cases it is helpful for the Group Planning Team to develop a strategy for the group as a whole and then to delegate the subsequent strategic planning to planning teams at Divisional (and later, perhaps, to some of the profit centres). The planning process itself can become administratively complex and this Group Version of The Argenti System discusses the 'multi-level' problems that often arise.
The Argenti System of Strategic Planning for Smaller Companies.
Both the Standard and The Group Versions of Argenti System contain extensive advice on certain technical aspects of strategic planning. Some of these may be unnecessarily advanced for smaller companies and start-ups and so this Version has been developed for companies with fewer than 100 employees and/or whose turnover does not exceed $20m.
This is designed for all small companies including co-operatives, mutuals and partnerships. It contains advice on selecting a planning team from the management ranks and other small-company problems, including those which often occur in family businesses.
The Argenti System of Strategic Planning for Non Profit Organizations.
This version is designed for all those organizations normally found in the public and the voluntary sectors. Our definition of NPOs includes all charities, associations, clubs, societies, churches, institutions, schools, trade unions, foundations, hospitals, social enterprises, institutes, non-Government organizations (NGOs). We also include all the 'leagues' and 'voluntaries' as they are known in some European nations. The websites of NPOs typically appear under the '.org' domain name. But in our NPO classification we also include all governments at local, national and international levels and their departments, agencies, authorities, regulators, statutory bodies, services, quangos and boards. These websites often use the domain name '.gov'. Thus an NPO is defined here as any organization that does not strive to make a profit or to distribute dividends to shareholders. This Version is therefore not suitable for any commercial organizations or 'companies'.
Amongst other topics that are relevant to these organizations this version attempts to tackle one particular problem which almost all NPOs face - how to define their Purpose in such a way that their overall corporate performance may be quantified and measured.
Current prices for all these versions will be found on the Purchase pages.
